Still Defaulting Tax Codes & Allowing Users to Choose Tax Rates? Then Your Company is at Risk!

If your tax solution predominantly relies on setting default tax rates on supplier and customer sites then allowing users to override them then unfortunately you are not alone. The majority of clients we visit with issues have their solution set up this way too and in nearly all cases, we see areas of risk not only to compliance of VAT reporting but also with financial efficiency. The sad thing is that not only is it completely unnecessary to have a manual tax solution, the guys who designed eBTax and Fusion tax at Oracle did so to stop default taxes being used yet it remains one of the most common approaches!

By defaulting tax codes, whether they are right or wrong fundamentally means that you have a manual solution because the user each time will check and then override the tax if they think it needs to be changed. Allowing an AP clerk that level of responsibility is a huge risk to any business as their main goal is to get the invoice entered and paid. In many cases they wont know they are making a mistake and finding the issues after they have been entered is much harder.

In this session, we will show you the risks associated with badly designed manual solutions and go through the best practice in how a tax solution should be set up. We will present this using examples from both Fusion and R12 environments.
